About ETS

About ETSThe English Teachers' Swap (ETS) is hosted annually by a Taipei senior high school in association with Taipei Educational Bureau. This event is designed to enable English teachers in secondary schools nationwide to share their expertise and engage in productive discussions about their classroom practices and innovations.

In 2003, seven Taipei English teachers from Zhongshan Girls' Senior High School, Chung Cheng Senior High School and Cheng Kung Senior High School founded the ETS. Realizing at the time that TESOL/TEFL conferences in Taiwan served mainly practitioners working in higher education, these teachers decided to start a teaching conference exclusively for secondary school teachers. They envisioned creating a network for high school teachers to swap their expertise and teaching experiences with one another.

In October 2004, the first ETS conference was held in Jian-tan. The conference had a number of themes including teaching the four skills, testing, the use of technology in the classroom and teacher recruitment. In June 2005, three teachers from LiShan High School joined the ETS team. The second ETS conference features a lesson plan display, which the following year will develop into a lesson plan contest.

The ETS conference theme changes annually, based on the participants' feedback, in order to address current issues about teaching and learning in secondary education.
